So What All Jobs Can Be There In These Industries That Require A Non-Medical Degree?

Now when we have understood what all industries are covered under “Healthcare”; let’s expand our imaginations as to what all jobs can be there in these industries that doesn’t require MBBS degree!

Well, think of all the departments that are required in these industries to run their business operations smoothy. Following are the common departments in most of the above industries:

  • Sales
  • Marketing
  • Accounts & Finance
  • Manufacturing
  • R&D
  • Regulatory Affairs

All above department jobs do not require a degree in MBBS or Nursing. For some departments it is preferred to have qualification in the related field, yet others are common across sectors. For example in Pharmaceutical manufacturing & R&D jobs; it is preferred to have a degree in Pharmaceutical or related fields like Microbiology, Biotechnology, biochemistry etc. Whereas, for the role in Accounts & Finance department a degree in Commerce is required which is common across sectors be it Automobiles, Banking, FMCG etc.

Understanding Basic Role Of Each Department

Every department in an organisation is as vital as each and every organ in our body. A brief understanding of the basic role/function of each department shall give us a better clarity to choose our career path right from the beginning.

Sales:

It is one of the most essential department for any organisation because ultimately this department is responsible for selling the product/service of the company to the potential users. Companies that are unable to sell their produce shall not be able to survive for long.

Qualifications Required: Any Postgraduation/Graduation degree. Majority of healthcare industries shall require similar or related field qualification for example a degree in Pharmaceutical, B.Sc., Biotechnology, Chemistry, Microbiology etc added with a management degree like M.B.A.

Skill Sets:

If you have a knack of sales, an outgoing personality, like traveling, can engage people in meaningful discussion and self motivated; you are a good fit for this department. Do not choose sales as career if you do not have above traits/skill sets.

Marketing:

The prime objective of this department is to generate leads, create brand awareness, prepare competitive strategies to make the product saleable.

Qualifications Required: Any Postgraduation/Graduation degree. Majority of healthcare industries shall require similar or related field qualification for example a degree in Pharmaceutical, B.Sc., Biotechnology, Chemistry, Microbiology etc added with a management degree like M.B.A.

Skill Sets:

If you have a creative bent of mind, an ambivert or extrovert, understand human behaviour and psychology, like traveling, can engage people in meaningful discussion and self-motivated; you are a good fit for this department. Do not choose marketing as a career if you do not enjoy thinking differently, analysing human behaviour and travelling.

Is Sales & Marketing Same?

Ever heard someone telling you that he/she is working is Sales & Marketing department! I am sure your answer is “yes”. Well, this is a wrong nomenclature. Sales & Marketing are two different departments and addresses different aspects of the business. Marketing & Sales departments role is required once there is a finished product/service is available

Let’s explain the difference with a common product “bottled drinking water” under brand “xyz” for the understanding of all. The water bottle is to reach it’s end consumer from the warehouse of the company to complete business cycle. The sales department is supposed to make the bottled water available at all retail shops, departmental stores, restaurants, hospitals and any place where the same can be consumed by the end user. This shall require appointing trade channel partners like C&F, Distributor, Retailers. This is one part of the sales department, but their role is not complete unless the payment is received for the stocks sold through various channels.

Now the question may arise, why would any trade channel partner agree to buy stock of the brand “xyz”? Further, why would a consumer prefer “xyz” over the other available brands? Here comes the role of Marketing department. The marketing department is responsible for creating brand awareness through various channels like advertisement in print, electronics or social media. All brochures, ads, campaigns etc. that we see comes under the marketing department.

In short, the prime role of marketing department is to generate leads, brand awareness. Whereas the prime role of sales department is to generate revenue. No doubt both the departments have to complement each other roles.

Stay tuned as, I shall cover up other job roles in next part of the blog. Share this blog if you know someone who could be benefitted from it. Follow our social media page on FB/Insta/LinkedIn and our YouTube channel.
